Wedding Cake Trends for 2023

With the pandemic over, the experts in the industry are anticipating that wedding cakes will be a grand affair this year. In preparation to exhibit prior to our official opening this year, we’ve been on the research wagon, and we thought we’d share a little of what we’ve learned. We hope it will spark some ideas for your special day. In this post, we have everything from the grandiose to the simple and still elegant. Some of the concepts from the massive cakes can always be scaled down to meet your needs and budget. Or, if you’re going big this year, we can scale up the smaller items too.

Separated tiers

The Knot has this style of cake listed at the top of their list. Tiers of a traditional cake can be separated with an ornamental layer, including glass boxes, multi-layer cake stands, flowers, and much, much more. In March, while we’re at the Eden Prairie Wedding Expo at Fat Pants Brewing and at the Wedding Fair downtown, we will be exhibiting a cake in this style with darker tones.

Bold Colors, Jewel Tones, and Pantone-Inspired is the way to go in 2023

World Bride Magazine has much commentary on color for 2023. Jewel tones, inspired from emeralds, rubies, and other gems are a great way to give a luxe vibe to your perfect day. Pantone’s color of the year is Viva Magenta, and we’re seeing lots of wedding themes fitting that theme too. This fits the bill for those who want to steer away from the simplistic and add a little something bright.

Texture is another way to stand out

These cakes range anywhere from frosting smears to elegant lambeth cakes, to wedding-dress inspired ruffles. Flowers are always a nice addition, and waterfalls as well as spirals of flowers are making a huge appearance this year.

White: Tried and True But Going Big in 2023

White cakes and naked cakes are always a hit, but in 2023, they are going big or textured. Ruffles and other dress-inspired cakes (as mentioned above) are also popular in the traditional white.

Finally, Cales with Pressed Flowers

Or pressed-flower effects. To the right is a tiered cake pictured on Weddingomania.com. And below, is a small triple-layer pressed flower effect cake made by our very own, Mackenzie.
